Contemporary Issues class was a great help

I felt like this was a very informative and overall productive class. I had zero experience with creating and writing in a blog. It was a lot easier to create than presumed and despite my numerous technology blunders, I feel confident that I would be able to create a future blog, if needed.

I also really liked the feature story assignments this semester it gave me some really great experience in writing a story that needs multiple in-depth interviews. It was also really great that Contemporary Issues was such a small class, with serious journalism students.

Initially I was worried about covering political issues, but the student presentations and the text helped me gain needed information for covering these types of stories. And how perfect that this class took place during the election, it was a really exciting story to cover and interesting especially to talk to people with different perspectives on the Presidential election and Amendment 64. I got to talk to a lot of interesting people who had some strong opinions about marijuana usage.
Through this class I’ve developed a better eye and ear for newsworthy stories. I’m looking forward to JMC 410.

Proposed budget for 2013 compares positivley to previous years

City Council examined the proposed budget for the year of 2013 Tuesday, during a meeting. The proposed budget is estimated to cost 288,068,861 dollars. In comparison to recent years Deputy of Finance, Lezile Philip believes that economically the budget is looking up.

“The budget is going in a positive direction. Sales tax is gaining revenue and it seems like the budget has room to provide more people with raises. There are also a lot more construction projects and I think this is a good thing,” Philip said.

Indeed money for repairing roads and bridges is aptly included in the 2013 budget. An estimated 7,688,692 dollars is proposed to go towards street and bridge maintenance. Council member Mike Finn noted during the meeting that the budget had appropriately increased from the last year.

“ I think it’s justified and I agree,” Finn said of the budget’s increases in comparison to previous years.

Council members also discussed the project plans of several new business facilities, which seem to give the economic growth a positive outlook. Regarding the cities necessities the proposed budget appears to be making an effort to finance an array of enterprises.
“ We have an obligation to be looking in all directions,” said Council Member Sapienza.
